Located in Mendocino County near the benchlands of the Russian River, Bonterra Vineyards is a certified organic grape grower as designated by the California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF). Vineyard manager David Koball sees himself as not just responsible for growing the finest fruit available, but also as a caretaker for the land. This philosophy can no doubt be tasted in every Bonterra varietal, which includes Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Zinfandel.
A three-time medalist at multiple international wine competitions, Bonterra’s 2006 Chardonnay has been featured in publications ranging from Wine Enthusiast and Wine Spectator, to the Baltimore Sun and Green Lifestyles magazine.
Winemaker Bob Blue notes that due to mild weather, the fruit for the ’06 Chardonnay vintage was able to ripen fully, providing a strong acidic backbone that underlies its crisp, fresh appeal. Harvested along a 12-mile corridor near the banks of the Russian River, year after year this Chardonnay offers a taste of green apple, baked apple, pear, and citrus notes, with just a touch of vanilla.
This wine will retail in the $12-15 range for a 750 ml bottle.
