Sustainability goes far beyond the bottle for this CCOF-certified winery. Makers of approximately 50,000 cases of wine each year, Frog's Leap utilizes dry farming, meaning that the roots from their vines grow deep enough into the ground to reach the water table below, saving energy by creating efficiency. They are also entirely solar powered, and in 2007, their Hospitality Center became LEED Silver certified from the U.S. Green Building Council (see picture below).
With a production of 13,000 cases, the 2006 Frog's Leap Cabernet Sauvignon was released in November, 2008, and contains 89% Cabernet mixed with Cabernet Franc and Merlot.
Aiming to make a very satisfying Napa Cabernet and not a showy one, winemakers John Williams and Paula Moschetti followed the lessons of many Bordeaux-style predecessors, the net result of which is a wine that is just as balanced and drinkable young as it is old. The 2006 carries a nose of black fruit and fresh herbs, followed by tastes of ripe plum and black currants, finished with hints of cedar and velvety tannins.
Available for a limited time from the Frog's Leap online store; also available at various online outlets, stores, and restaurants nationwide.
$42 when purchased online from the winery; between $35 - $45 from various online outlets at last check.
