True Earth Red Blend - Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petite Sirah

Made out of organically grown grapes from California's sustainability-minded Mendocino County, the aptly named True Earth is a no-fuss option for your next house party.  At 3,300 cases produced, the Cabernet/Merlot/Petite Sirah blend is produced by Three Thieves, perhaps best known in the eco-sphere as the producers of Bandit box wine, made in environmentally-friendly Tetra Pak cartons.  Minimal sulfites are added to this 13.7% alcohol, CCOF-certified first release, which is culled from multiple vintages.

This wine is among several cost-effective options that dispel the myth that organic wine is made only from expensive, limited-production, boutique wineries.  Featuring blackberry and rhubarb on the nose, at the time of our tasting we found a light, fruity beginning with subtle tannins, and a slight caramel finish.  Despite Cabernet making up the majority of the blend, we personally tasted more of the Merlot peaking through.  Definitely a versatile red that can pair with many different types of foods.

We found a bottle at our local Whole Foods Market.  At the present time, availability extends to multiple online wine merchants as well.

About $12.99 for a 750 ml bottle.
