Located in Forest Ranch, California, LaRocca Vineyards is about 100 miles north of the state capitol of Sacramento, and about 16 miles east of Chico. Despite its distance inland from many of California's more famous wine regions of Napa, Sonoma, and Mendocino, this family-run winery has made a name for itself in organic farming. With both their vineyards and winery certified organic (CCOF), LaRocca does not add any sulfites to their wines during production. The 2003 Organic Sparkling wine is the first USDA certified sparkling wine with no sulfites detected. The winery produces approximately 22,000 cases annually of Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet, Zinfandel, and other varietals.
This Blanc de Blancs (100% Chardonnay) is hand-riddled, and conditioned in the bottle following the traditional French method. With smells of green apple and a honey finish, this wine carries the standard of being the first certified organic sparkler on the market.
Available at the winery's website; may also be found where available at Whole Foods Market stores nationwide.
